Appropriate Authority

The Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994 & THOA Rules 2014 outline several key functions of the Appropriate Authority to ensure the ethical and legal practices regarding organ transplantation. Some of these functions include:

  • To grant registration to Transplant Hospitals.
  • To renew registrations of Transplant Hospitals
  • To suspend or cancel registration for non-compliance.
  • To investigate any complaint of breach of any provisions of this act or any of the rules made thereunder and take appropriate action.
  • To inspect Tissue Bank periodically
  • To inspect hospitals periodically for examination of the quality of Transplantation and persons from whom organs are removed.
