Organ Donation Awareness Activities for 2023
1. Organ Donation Awareness Talk was conducted at Super Speciality Block Goa Medical College on 6th January, 2023. The session was attended by the Doctors, Nurses and administration staff of SSB.
2. An Awareness Session on Organ Donation was conducted in collaboration with the value Education Cell of St. Xavierâs College. Around 600 students attended the session.

3. Awareness Session on Organ Donation was conducted for the Allied Health Science students of Goa Medical College. Around 250 students attended this session.

4. SOTTO Goa in collaboration with NSS Unit of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Mapusa Conducted an Awareness Session on Organ Donation.

5. A sensitization programme on Organ Donation was conducted at Carmel College for Women, Nuvem through the Value Education Cell. Where all the students of the college and the faculty were addressed in three sessions.

6. SOTTO Goa conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for the students and faculty of Rosary College, Nuvem. Around 150 students attended this session.

7. Organ Donation Awareness Session was conducted by SOTTO Goa in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation for the students & Faculty of St. Maryâs Convent School, Mapusa. More Than 200 school students along with their teacherâs attended the session with great enthusiasm.

9. On the occasion of International Womenâs Day Celebration various Awareness programmes were Conducted
- An Organ Donation awareness session was conducted by SOTTO Goa in collaboration with Government College Sankhali. The session was attended by all Third Year students of Arts, Commerce & Science along with the faculty.

10. An awareness session on Organ Donation was conducted by Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director, SOTTO Goa at Daffodils Multi-Speciality Hospital. The session was attended by the Management, Doctors & Nurses of the hospital.

11. World Kidney Day 09th March 2023, Kidney Health for all was celebrated at Goa Medical College. A CME session was conducted by Dr. J.P. Tiwari, Prof. & HOD of Nephrology, Goa Medical College on this yearâs theme for World Kidney Day – preparing for the unexpected & Supporting the Vulnerable. A skit was performed by the Department of Nephrology & Urology to raise awareness about Kidney Transplant.

12. SOTTO Goa conducted a 5 hours continuing Nursing Education Programme on 23rd April 2023 on Topic Deceased Donor Organ Transplant Programme. CNE was attended by 300 nurses from Goa Medical College as Well as other Private Hospitals and Transplant Coordinators. The entire deceased Donor Organ Transplant Programme was discussed in detail in various sessionsâ right from the Identification of Brain Dead Donor, Brain Stem Death Certification, and Intensive care for Organ Donation, Patient Ranking & Organ Distribution System, The Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994 Law, et

13. An awareness session on Organ Donation was conducted at Police Training School, Valpoi where more than 400 new recruits of Goa Police Department were addressed including the principal and vice principal and the trainers.

14. Goa witnessed its 3rd Deceased Donor Organ Donation on 28th May 2023 when 19 year old boyâs family took a brave decision and consented for Organ Donation. One YES TO ORGAN DONATION saved 4 lives. The kidneys were allocated to Goa Medical College by SOTTO Goa as per the waiting list and the Heart was allocated to H.N. Reliance Hospital, Mumbai and Liver to CIMS hospital, Ahmadabad by ROTTOSOTTO West Mumbai.

16. SOTTO GOA conducted an Organ donation awareness session at INFOTECH GOA on 2nd June 2023. Major Myth of ORGANS BEING TAKEN OUT IN THE MORTUARY was clarified that NO ORGANS ARE RETRIEVED IN THE MORTUARY, the reason being – an organ from a dead person has no blood supply and it is as dead as the body itself. An organ like this cannot be transplanted as it will not function. Around 25 personnel from the office attended the session and actively interacted with the SOTTO Team.

17. State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa in Collaboration with ESI Hospital Margao Conducted a CME Programme on Organ Donation on 15th June 2023. The speaker for the CME was Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director, SOTTO Goa. Around 40 people including Doctors, Nurses & Admin Staff attended the session and promised to pledge as organ & Tissue Donor.

18. Organ Donation Awareness Session was conducted by SOTTO Goa in collaboration with Zuari Indian Oiltanking Private Limited on 21/06/2023. It was an interactive session attended by around 30 employees including the CEO and Engineers of ZIOL.

19. State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa in Collaboration with Sub District Hospital Ponda Conducted a CME Programme on Organ Donation on 27thJune 2023. The speaker for the CME was Ms. Shraddha Kelkar, Consultant IEC (Media & Publication), SOTTO Goa. Around 50 people including Doctors, Nurses & Admin Staff attended the session and promised to pledge as organ & Tissue Donor.

20. As a part of Organ Donation Awareness Month Celebration Organ Donation Awareness Session was organized in collaboration with Primary Health Centre Ponda for the Anganwadi Workers and PHC Staff. It was attended by around 100 people including anganwadi workers, Doctors & Nurses of PHC Ponda. The talk was held in the local language and was well received by the people.

27. SOTTO Goa in collaboration with Neurology and Neurosurgery Department of Goa Medical College Conducted a CME on Brain Death- Concept & Certification. Dr. Teresa Ferreira, Prof. & HOD of Neurology, GMC presented on Concept of Brain Stem Death and Dr. Sanat Bhatkar, Interventional Neurologist, Dept. of Neurology, GMC presented on Brain Stem Death Certification and Dr. Ponraj Sundaram, Prof. & HOD, Dept. of Neurosurgery, GMC was the moderator for the session. The CME was held in Hybrid mode (Online & offline) and was attended by around 300 delegates from all across Goa.

Staff of Nephrology department of GMC and SOTTO performed a street play âAvayav Daan Garjuna Vardaanâ to create awareness about Organ Donation at various place like OPD block, Casualty, outside ICU & OT, Deanâs office etc.
Goa Medical College & SOTTO â Goa celebrated IODD 2023 âAngdaan Mahostavâ by felicitating all the departments for their valuable contribution, dedication & support to the cause of Organ Donation &Transplant Programmeâ.

32. An Awareness session was organized on the online platform through google meet and was attended by more than 30 people. Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director, SOTTO Goa during the presentation simplified the concept of Organ Donation for the participants and encouraged them to pledge as an Organ Donors.

35. SOTTO â Goa conducted an Awareness Session on âOrgan Donationâ as part of Induction Programme for the 1st year Students of Goa Engineering College Farmagudi Ponda on 17th August 2023.All seven trades of GEC were address by the speakers. Nearly 700 students along with the respective faculty and staff attended the programme. 41. Under the Leadership of the Dean Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar, Goa Medical College for the first time ever introduced a Module on Organ Donation in the Foundation Course for the First Year MBBS Students of the 2023-24 batch. Dr. Preeti Varghese Joint Director, SOTTO Goa in her session spoke about the importance of creating awareness and sensitization of the Next Gen of Medical Professionals.

43. Goa witnessed 4th Deceased Organ Donation on 15th September 2023 at Goa Medical College & Hospital Bambolim Goa. A brave decision of 25 year old boyâs family to donate organ gave a new life to 4 patientâs awaiting an organ transplant.
The Kidneys were allocated by SOTTO â Goa as per the waiting list. One kidney was allocated to a 31 year old patients at Goa medical College and other kidney to 37 year old patient at Healthway Hospital. NOTTO allocated Heart to MGM Healthcare Chennai and Liver to Army Hospital R & R Delhi.

44. State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College honored the 4 Organ Donor Families for Saying Yes to Organ Donation that saved 16 Lives. The families were felicitated by His Excellency Governor of Goa Shri. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai in the presence of Health minister of Goa Shri. Vishwajit P. Rane, Secretary Health Shri Arun Kumar Mishra, Director NOTTO Dr. Anil Kumar, Director DHS Dr. Geeta Kakodkar, Dean Goa Medical College Prof. Dr. S.M. During this session many myths regarding organ donation were cleared. Many participants following the session pledged for Organ Donation.

46. Organ Donation Awareness Session was held for the Staff of Directorate of Panchayat, Government of Goa. During the session some basic concepts related to Organ Donation like types of Organ Donation, Need for Organ Donation were discussed.

47. A play on Organ Donation was performed by the 7th Std Students of St. Theresa High School, Vasco Da Gama to spread the message of Organ Donation during the Annual Day function that was attended by the students Faculty and Parents.
