IEC Activities for 2024

Online Organ Donation Awareness sessions held in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services for the Doctors, Nurses and Support staff of various medical facilities like District Hospitals, Sub District Hospitals, Community Health Centers , Primary Health centers and urban Health Centers under the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa.

State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Directorate of Art & Culture office at Patto Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 100 government employees many of which took a pledge for organ donation followed by the session.
Goa witnessed its 5TH Deceased Donor Organ Donation; family of a 40 year old native of Jharkhand donated his Organs and gave a new lease of life to TWO People. Both the donated kidneys were transplanted at Goa Medical College to a 27 year & 36 year old patient registered onto the waiting list for Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant Programme.
SOTTO Goa in collaboration with NCDC Cell, Directorate of Health Services organized a half a day training programme on NAVE JIVIT – NEW LIFE the Organ Transplant Programme in the state, the programme aimed to train the Health Officer’s and Extension Educators (IEC’s) of DHS.
In collaboration with Directorate of Technical Education an awareness session was organized at the Fr. Agnel Polytechnic College, Verna where the students and teachers attended the session in large numbers.
SOTTO Goa in collaboration with SCERT, Goa conducted online awareness session for Higher Secondary Teachers. Around 700 teachers from north Goa were addressed during the session.
Organ Donation Awareness Stall was set up at the GARD-MSN Marathon by Goa Medical College where around 1500 people comprising of Doctor’s, Medical students, Nurses, Technicians, Administration staff and their families.
As a run up to World Kidney Day 14th March 2024, SOTTO Goa promoted worldwide social media campaign #Show your Kidneys stressing on the functions of kidney.
SOTTO Goa setup Organ Donation Awareness Stall at PLEXUS 2024 an Inter – Collegiate event organized by Student Council of Goa Medical College where 15 colleges from all across Goa participated in large numbers.
In collaboration with Student Council of Goa Medical College as a part of PLEXUS 2024 an Inter – Collegiate event an Short film competition on Organ Donation was held named ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ around 10 colleges participated in the event. An online Organ Donation awareness session was held for all the participants to orient the students about various concepts of Organ Donation. Following is the link for top three short films. The State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization, Goa Medical College in collaboration with the North Goa District Hospital and the Non-Communicable Disease Cell of the Directorate of Health Services, organized a WALKATHON on the occasion of World Kidney Day on the 14th of March 2024. This year’s theme for World Kidney Day is “Kidney Health for All – Advancing Equitable Access to Care and Optimal Medication Practice.” The MS of NGDH Dr. Vandana Dhume flagged off the Walkathon, which saw participation of over 100 individuals, including doctors, nurses, hospital staff, nursing students, patients and their families. The Walkathon took place at North Goa District Hospital with the participants shouting slogans and carrying informative posters promoting kidney health. And in continuation a silent march was also conducted within the hospital covering OPD areas and wards.
Department of Nephrology, Department of Urology and State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College conducted a CME at Goa Medical College. The topic of the CME was “Kidney Transplantation and Crossmatch’ by Dr. J. P. Tiwari, Prof. & Head Department of Nephrology, GMC. Around 300 delegates attended the CME. A short film on Organ Donation ‘A Gift of Life’ was screened at the CME and was followed by a Skit by Staff of Nephrology and Urology Department.
SOTTO Goa in collaboration with SCERT, Goa conducted online awareness session for Higher Secondary Teachers on 15th & 16th April 2024. Around 550 teachers from South Goa were addressed during the session.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa in collaboration with Continuing Nursing Education Committee of Goa Medical College organized a Half a day CNE programme on Kidney Transplant – Living & Deceased Donor. The CNE focused on education the nurses regarding various aspects of Kidney Transplant like Patient workup, Registration of the Donor, Living Donor Kidney Transplant, Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant, and Donor Maintenance and so on. Around 320 Nurses from Goa Medical College, Directorate of Health services, Transplant Hospitals and other private hospitals benefitted from this training programme.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation for the students of Bhumika Nursing College Poriem Sattari – Goa. Around 150 students along with the faculty members attended the session.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Department of Tribal Welfare at Patto Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 40 government employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Labour & Employment Department at Patto Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 30 government employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at Patto Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 50 employees.
SOTTO Goa in collaboration with CSIR Pensioners Association Goa Chapter conducted an awareness session on organ donation at National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). The session was attended by 100 plus participants.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Department of Information & Publicity Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 30 employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Regional Office of ESIC Patto – Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 35 employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at office of Dy. Collector, Tiswadi Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 15 employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at GSIDC Office Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 40 employees.

SOTTO Goa Medical College had collaborated with Manipal Organ Sharing and Transplant (MOST) & IMA Goa in organizing workshop on Organ Donation & End of Life Care on 25th June 2024 at Manipal Hospital. The faculty for the workshop was Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar Dean GMC, Dr. (Col) Avnish Seth Head MOST, Dr. Sandesh Chodankar IMA Goa President, Dr. Preeti Varghese Joint Director SOTTO GMC, Dr. Amol Mahaldar, Dr. K.S. Ponraj, Dr. A.S. Netalkar, and Dr. Parul Dubey.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Captain of Ports Department, Panaji. The session was attended by around 25 employees.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa conducted an Awareness session on Organ Donation at Income Tax Office, Patto Panaji. The session was attended by around 30 employees.
SOTTO Goa In collaboration with Airport Authority of Manohar International Airport Mopa conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for the heads of various administrative departments. The session focused on educating airport authorities about the importance of Organ Donation and discussed the SOP for Transportation of Human Organs by Air.

As a part of ” Angdaan Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan” SOTTO Goa Medical College conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session at All India Institute of Ayurveda Goa in collaboration with the Department of Rachana Sharir, AIIA Goa. The interactive session focused on educating the students about the concept of Brain Stem Death, importance of Organ Donation and debunking some myths related to Organ Donation & Transplant. The speaker Dr. Preeti Varghese Joint Director, SOTTO Goa concluded the session by administering Organ Donation Pledge. The Dean, Associate Dean, Faculties and around 100 students of AIIA attended the session.

SOTTO Goa Medical College conducted organ Donation Awareness Session at National Institute of Oceanography Donapaula for the Staff. The interactive session was attended by around 40 officials with great enthusiasm.
Organ Donation Awareness Session was organized by SOTTO Goa at the Reserve Bank of India’s Regional Office in Panaji. During the session, the officials were sensitized about the importance of organ. To support this noble cause many officials took a pledge to become an organ donor and give a gift of life.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College observed the month of july as Organ Donation Awareness Month themed, “Angdaan Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan” to spread awareness and debunk myths regarding organ donation. With aim to raise awareness and promote the noble cause of organ donation and transplantation various competitions were organized themed “Organ Donation – A Gift of Life.”

The competitions included:

A Rangoli Competition was held in collaboration with NCDC Cell, Directorate of Health Services which saw enthusiastic participation from around 30 health facilities across Goa.

An GMC interdepartmental poster competition was organized which received an outstanding response of 110 poster entries showcasing various aspects of organ donation and transplantation.

A special category poster competition was held in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology, Goa Medical College for kidney recipients who created beautiful posters.

An Interschool Poster Drawing competition on Organ Donation with overwhelming response of 51 schools from all across Goa. Director S.C.E.R.T. Goa Mrs. Meghana Shetgaonkar Joined in support of Organ Donation. Students showed great enthusiasm and creativity in showcasing different aspects of Organ Donation

State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College celebrated Indian Organ Donation Day on 3rd August 2024 in the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest the Secretary (Health) Goa Shri. Arun Kumar Mishra, Dean Goa Medical College Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar, Director DHS Dr. Rupa Naik, Director SCERT Goa Smt. Meghana Shetgaonkar, Director Admin GMC Mrs. Nathine Steva Araujo and Joint Director SOTTO GMC Dr. Preeti Varghese.
Dr. Preeti Varghese Joint Director of SOTTO Goa welcomed the gathering. Dr. J. P. Tiwari professor and Head of the Nephrology Goa Medical College was felicitated by the hands of the chief guest for his dedication and commitment towards the cause of Organ Donation & Transplantation.
The prize winners of various activities like the GMC Inter-department Poster Competition, Rangoli competition and Inter school Poster making competition were awarded prizes at the hands of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. At the function living Organ Donors, Recipients and Deceased Donor Organ recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the organ donors.
The Staff of the Nephrology and Urology Department performed a motivating skit on Organ Donation.
The State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) Goa conducted an awareness session on organ donation for councilors and staff of the Valpoi Municipal Council. Arround 40 staff members attended the session.
SOTTO Goa Medical College conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for Goa International Airport, Dabolim officials. Dr. Preeti Varghese Joint Director of SOTTO Goa in her address discussed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Human Organ Transportation by air and the importance of Organ Donation & Transplantation. The officials including the Director, Heads of various departments, CISF personnel and airline representatives attended the session. By empowering airport officials with knowledge and procedures, SOTTO Goa aims to facilitate the smooth and timely transportation of organs and save precious lives.
SOTTO Goa Medical College, in Collaboration with Lions Club of Dambolim, organized an informative session on Organ Donation. The session was attended by around 30 members.
State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) Goa conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation for councilors and staff of the Corporation of the City of Panaji. Around 30 officials attended a session.
SOTTO Goa Medical College in Collaboration with Rotary Club Mid Town Panaji had organized an Awareness session on Organ Donation. The session was attended by around 30 members.
SOTTO Goa Medical College, in collabration with Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim, Conducted an orientation session on Organ & Tissue Donation Transplant Programme for 1st-year B.Sc. Nursing and R-ANM students. Around 200 students, faculty, and staff participated in the programme.
SOTTO Goa Medical College conducted organ Donation Awareness Session for the Staff of Water Resource Department at Porvorim Goa. The interactive session was attended by around 20 officials with great enthusiasm
The newly admitted batch of the Allied Health Science Course of Goa Medical College was introduced to Organ & Tissue Donation & transplantation through an awareness session during the ‘Orientation Programme’. The session was attended by around 150 students and their parents who showed great enthusiasm in learning about the cause.
To introduce newly joined first-year MBBS students to the noble cause of organ donation and transplantation an introductory session was incorporated into the ‘Foundation Course’ of Goa Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director of SOTTO Goa explained the need for organ donation and the impact that one ‘Yes’ to organ donation can have on the lives of those suffering from organ failure. Approximately 200 students attended the interactive session.
SOTTO Goa Medical College conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for the Staff of North Goa Collector Office Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 20 officials.

SOTTO – Goa conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for the Staff of the Directorate of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation at Porvorim Goa.

During this interactive session, many myths surrounding organ donation were discussed and busted. The officials of the department participated in a large number.

SOTTO Goa conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Session for the Staff of Directorate of Women & Child Developments Office, Panaji. The interactive session was attended by around 50 officials.

Recognizing the pivotal role of media in disseminating vital information, SOTTO Goa organized an awareness session on organ donation and transplantation for the staff of Gomantak Daily and Gomantak TV. The engaging session was attended by reporters, editors and production team members aimed to educate them on various aspects of organ donation, including brain death and organ allocation. The staff demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm by actively participating in discussions and showcased united support for the cause of organ donation by pledging for organ donation in large numbers.

The State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College collaborated with the Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration at Bambolim to conduct an informative Organ Donation Awareness Session.  Around 60 officials including Director FDA Mrs. Shweta Naik attended the session, which aimed to dispel myths and promote understanding of organ donation. The Consultant IEC of SOTTO provided an informative overview, while Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director of SOTTO Goa engaged in an interactive Q&A session, addressing queries and encouraging participation. The session concluded with Mrs. Shweta Naik, Director FDA setting aremarkable example by pledging to donate her organs.
